The Neylon family can trace their roots in New Zealand back to 1867 when the entire family moved from Ireland to the South Island. John Neylon, the great grandson, started commercial farming of mussels in the Marlborough Sounds in 1975, about the same time as the first Sauvignon Blanc vines were planted in Marlborough at Montana Wines. Success continued through the 1970’s and in to the 1980’s when in 1985 and 1986 John purchased tracks of land in Marlborough for growing apples. In 1994 he purchased Spring Creek Property, built processing facilities for his fruit and achieved vertical integration in apples and pears. In 1999 and 2003 John established a nursery and then an additional property, planting his first vines in 2003. The winery was established in 2005.

Rapaura Springs is a family-owned company between the Neylon and Wiffin families in Marlborough. Rapaura Springs is part of the Spring Creek Vintners Group which includes, among other companies:

- Vineyard Management, for managing vineyards for third parties;
- Spring Creek Vintners, a state-of-the-art winery producing 640,000 cases/year, is one of Marlborough’s top ten producers.
